SAMPLE COLLECTION
The samples were collected by staff members of the ecotoxicology group. The samples were transferred into amber hottles and stored until analysis at below -20°C.

HANDLING
Analyses were performed in duplicate, no sample was stored.

Vehicle:
no
Details on test solutions:
- Date of purchase: March 26, 1991
- Size of stock vessel: 182 L; height: 49 cm; length: 98 cm; with: 38 cm Material of stock vessel: glass
- Amount of water per stock vessel: 149 L
- Depth of water in the stock vessel: approximately 40 cm
- Estimated number of fish kept as a stock per holding vessel (batchsize): .200
- Water: reconstituted water
- Renewal of water: Flow through - weekly turnover rate: approximately 1000-1500 L Temperature of water: 20/22 min/max °C
- Oxygen content of water: 80/100 min/max % 8.5/9.5 min/max mg/L
- Hardness of water: 150/250 min/max mg CaCO3/L
Under holding conditions the hardness of water is measured infrequently. The lowest and highest value ever measured is given above. However, themore realistic values correspond to those measured for the reconstituted water in this study since the reconstituted water for the holding of fish
and the test were derived from the same source.

Details on results:
- The analytically determined actual concentrations of the test material in the test solutions at the beginning of the study were found to be within the range of 109 % and 143 % with an average of 121.3 %.
- The analytically determined stability of the test material in the test solutions after 96 hours of exposure was found to be within the range of 13 % and 42 % of the nominal values with an average of 26.5 %.

Reported statistics and error estimates:
Probit Analysis (Finney 1971) was used to determine LC-values. When less than 3 test substance concentrations caused effects between O and 100 % then the geometrical mean was applied.

Conclusions:
The acute toxicity of Paraffin oils, sulfochlorinated, saponified to Fish (Danio rerio) was tested according to OECD Guideline no. 203 "Fish, Acute Toxicity Test, adopted 1984". The lethal concetration LC50 was determined during 96 hours to be 1.10 mg/L (Leuna, AG, 1991).
Executive summary:

In accordance with GLP regulations the acute toxicity of Emulgator E 30 to the fish Brachydanio rerio (Hamilton Buchanan), Zebra fish was investigated in a static test system during a test period of 96 hours. The study was performed according to the OECD Guideline 203, 1984.

The nominal concentrations to which the test organisms were exposed were 0.625, 1.25, 2.5, 5.0 and 10.0 mg/L Emulgator E 30.

The analytically determined actual concentrations of the test material in the test solutions at the beginning of the study were found to be within the range of 109% and 143% with an average of 121.3%.

Based on nominal concentrations the study resulted in the following value:

LC50 (96 h): 4.16 mg/L Emulgator E 30

No Observed Effect Concentration (NOEC): 2.50 mg/L Emulgator E 30

Based on actual (measured) concentrations at the end of the test ( on average 26.5% nominal) the study resulted in the following value:

LC50 (96 h): 1.10 mg/L Emulgator E 30

No Observed Effect Concentration (NOEC): 0.66 mg/L Emulgator E 30
