Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Data on the acute aquatic toxicity of a number of streams are available for this category. The data from these streams have been read across to the other category members.

The studies were conducted to standard guidelines and according to GLP and so are considered fully reliable for use as key studies. The authors report the results based both on nominal loading rates (WAF) and mean measured concentrations. As the test substance is a hydrocarbon stream with various components reporting a measured concentration could be misleading as the measured concentration does not relate to a concentration of the raw stream. Instead, we have used the results reported as WAF, which better represent the potential toxicity of the test substance.

Short term toxicity to fish data gave a 96 hour LL50 range of 0.73 - 6.3 mg/L (WAF). Short term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates data gave a 48 hour EL50 range of 0.91-3.2 mg/L (WAF). Toxicity to aquatic algae data gave a 72 hour ErL50 range of 1.3 -1.5 mg/L (WAF). The streams in the category are not readily biodegradable and have a log Kow range of 2.8 to >6.5. This would lead to a classification of Aquatic Acute Category 1 and Aquatic Chronic Category 1 under the CLP.

The aquatic hazard assessment is currently on-going for Category L as part of the wider Environmental Testing Programme which includes screening and aquatic toxicity tests.
