Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Endpoint:
melting point/freezing point
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
13 September 2010 - 14 September 2010.
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: GLP Study, conducted to recognised guidelines.
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
reference to same study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.1 (Melting / Freezing Temperature)
Deviations:
no
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The test is conducted to determine the temperature or temperature range of the phase transition from a liquid to a solid. The substance is placed in a special jacketed glassware which is temperature controlled and cooled by a refrigerator unit circulating silicone oil. The sample is stirred gently and continuously during cooling and the temperature is measured at 0.5°C intervals. As soon as the temperature remains constant for a few readings the temperature is recorded as the freezing point.
This method has an estimated accuracy of ± 0.5°C.
The test is conducted in accordance with the procedure described in EU Regulation (EC) 440/2008, Annex Part A test A1.
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Type of method:
pour point
Key result
Melting / freezing pt.:
>= -20 - <= -15 °C
Remarks on result:
other: Conducted at atmospheric pressure.

Comments

The sample viscosity increased with decreasing temperatures. As a result, it was extremely difficult to stir the test material beyond 0°C.

Conclusions:
The freezing point range was determined to be -20 to -15°C.
Executive summary:

The freezing point range was determined to be -20 to -15°C.

Description of key information

Melting point/freezing point

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
-20 °C

Additional information

A single GLP compliant gives the melting point as -20 to -15 °C.
