Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

A trend of increasing viscosity with increasing carbon number is seen for category members.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Viscosity:
1.6 mm²/s (static)
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

Viscosity increases with increasing carbon number across the category, with a very similar trend for both the alpha olefins and olefins. Data is available for category members with carbon numbers of C6 to C28, but is waived for those category members that are solids at room temperature.

Substances with kinematic viscosities less than 7 mm2/sec or 20.5 mm2/sec at 40°C are classified for aspiration toxicity according to EU DSD and EU CLP regulations, respectively. Category members with carbon numbers C6 -C24 have viscosities below this and so are classified for aspiration toxicity.
