Executive summary:

The short-term toxicity to fish of the test item has been investigated using Rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykjss) in semi-static system. A range-finding experiment was conducted at the nominal concentrations of 1.0, 10 and 100 mg/l. The main test was conducted at the nominal concentration of 100 mg/l; two replicates were assayed. Blank control was also been tested.

No deaths were recorded in both the range-finding and the main experiments.

Conclusion

LC50 (96h) > 100 mg/l (nominal)

Description of key information

Not harmful/toxic to fish. LC50 (96h) > 100 mg/l (nominal)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

There are no information about the short-term toxicity potential of Basic Yellow 094, thus the available information on the structural analogue Similar Substance 01 have been taken into consideration. Similar Substance 01 is the acid form of Basic Yellow 094; the read across approach can be considered as appropriate and suitable to assess the property under investigation (details about the approach are reported into the IUCLID section 13).

The short-term toxicity to fish of the Similar Substance 01 has been investigated using rainbow trout, under semi-static conditions. Based on the outcomes of a range-finding experiment, the main test was conducted at the nominal concentration of 100 mg/l. Under the tested conditions, no deaths were recorded in both the range-finding and the main experiments.

Although the concentrations were not measured, the substance is expected to be stable, over the entire testing period: on the basis of the chemical structure and functional groups presents, the substance is estimated to be water soluble and stable at possible natural pH conditions.
