Description of key information

One study is used for the derivation of an acute toxicity reference value (Deleebeeck et al., 2004) at pH ranging from 6 to 7.9. Testing Pseudokircheneriella subcapitata, nickel toxicity increased with increasing pH with 72-h ErC50 values ranging from 125-81.5 µg Ni/L (pH 6-7.9, respectively). Since the value at pH 6 (125 µg/L) is the lowest toxicity value at that pH for any of the standard test species, this value is taken as the toxicity reference value for low pH.
