With the test material, short-term toxicity studies with daphnia, algae and fish were conducted. In the short term tests no toxicity of the test material in aquatic test systems was found up to the limit concentration (e. g. limit of solubility). The influence of a structural analogue substance on the activity of activated sludge was determined by measuring the respiration rate under defined conditions. The EC20/80 and EC50 of the test item are clearly higher than 1000 mg/L under the present test conditions.
The test material was additionally tested in a bioconcentration study with fish for a period of 28 days at concentrations of 0.2 and 0.02 mg/L (flow-through) which clearly exceed the limit of water solubility. To maintain these concentrations thoughout the study period, a solvent was used. During the 28 day test period, no signs of toxicity were observed. For a structural analogue, an additional long term reproduction toxicity study in daphnia was performed. Due to the low solubility of the test substance in water, this test was performed as limit tests using a nominal concentration of 100 mg/L test material. The survival rates and the reproduction rates did not indicate any toxic potential of the test material up to its solubility limit after the exposure period of 21 days. Therefore, the 21 -days NOEC was determined to be at least up to the solubility limit of the test substance in test water.
Thus, it is concluded that the test item does not possess any acute or chronic toxicity to aquatic organisms up to the limit of water solubility and higher.
