Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

The test item is not biodegradable in the Manometric Respirometry Test 301 F within 28 days.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
under test conditions no biodegradation observed

Additional information

The biodegradability of test item exposed to microorganisms derived from activated sludge of a municipal sewage treatment plant was investigated under aerobic static exposure conditions, following the test guideline OECD 301 F.

No biodegradability of test item based on O2 consumption was observed after 28 days, as compared to the chemical oxygen demand (COD).

The procedure control sodium benzoate reached 88 % biodegradation after 14 days, thus confirming suitability of inoculum and test conditions.

The total elimination based on dissolved organic carbon (DOC) measurements was non-significant for the test substance and 100 % for sodium benzoate. This data is in line with the degradation calculated based on O2 consumption.

The test item is not biodegradable in the Manometric Respirometry Test 301 F within 28 days.

All validity criteria were fulfilled.
