Preliminary test

Three test mixtures with the test item and cellulose 2:1 did not burn down completely. The mixtures burned for 4 s, 20 s and 18 s. Afterwards the flames extinguished.

Three test mixtures with barium nitrate and cellulose 2:1 burned down completely in 59 s, 47 s and 56 s.

Due to the results of the preliminary test the main test had to be performed.

 

Main test

Four tests were performed for the reference mixture (barium nitrate and cellulose) with 50, 55, 60 and 70 wt. % of oxidizer (barium nitrate). The highest burning rate of 1.68 mm/s was found for the mixture with 60 wt. % of oxidizer.

Mixtures of the test item with cellulose were prepared in different percentages. The results of the test of the different mixtures are reported in the table below.

The maximum burning rate of the mixtures of the test item with cellulose was lower than the maximum burning rate of the reference mixture. Five more tests were performed with the three mixtures with the highest burning rates to verify these values. Results are reported in the table below (including the values obtained by the previous test).
