EC number: 310-013-6 | CAS number: 102110-15-6 A complex combination of hydrocarbons obtained by distillation of the products from a steam-cracking process. It consists predominantly of hydrocarbons having carbon numbers of C5 and dicyclopentadiene and boiling in the range of approximately 30°C to 170°C (86°F to 338°F).
BCF have been calculated using for various representative components of these streams. Using a log Kow range of 2.68 to 6.96, the calculated values range from 4 to 2010 dimensionless (based on BCFBAF model) and 4.9 - 552 dimensionless (based on the regression based model).
The key value for the chemical safety assessment is the median BCF derived.
A measured BCF is not available for any streams in this category. As the log Kow of some category members is >3 the bioaccumulation endpoint cannot be waived. However, ECHA's Guidance on Information Requirements and Chemical Safety Assessment R7c Endpoint Specific Guidance (2008) indicates that before commissioning a new vertebrate test alternative sources of data on the bioaccumulation potential of a chemical should used.
BCF values have been calculated from representative substances. Nonpolar substances have been shown to have a linear relationship between log Kow and BCF in the log Kow range 1 - 6. Several QSAR have been developed that calculate the BCF of non-polar, hydrophobic compounds on the basis of their log Kow (e.g. Veith et al, 1979 and USEPA, 2008). BCFBAF v3.0 (USEPA 2008) has been used to calculate the BCF for respresentative substances of the streams since most of the substances fall within the applicability domain of the model and this has been used as the key study. The method of Veith et al (1979) was used to calculate the BCF as a supporting study. Parabolic method has been used to calculate a BCF for substances with a log Kow >6.
Using the US EPA (2008) model, the calculated BCF values for representative components of the streams in this category are in the range 10 -18000. The latter figure comes from a C15 olefin, all other BCF values for the category fall within the range 10 -174. Using the Veith et al (1979) method, the calculated BCF for representative components of the streams in this category are in the range 36 - 45928. All of the components except a C15 olefin were within the range 36-427. With the exception of the C15 olefin, the mean BCF value for representative components of the streams in this category is 162 (unitless) and this has been used to complete the 'key value for chemical safety assessment'.
