Additional information

No information on toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria was available on target substance. Therefore, available data on Similar Substance 01 was taken into account for the assessment. More details about the similarity between the two substances are reported in section 13.

Toxicity of test substance to unicellular freshwater green alga Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata was determined according to OECD guideline 201 and EU method C.3. The study was conducted under static conditions with an initial cell density of 6839 cells/ml. A saturated solution with a nominal loading of 100 mg test substance/l was prepared; undissolved particles were removed by membrane filtration. Thereafter, components of dilution water were added to saturated solution. Test concentrations obtained by dilution of saturated solution were: 6.25 - 12.5 - 25.0 - 50.0 - 100 % and were tested in triplicates. As for control, 6 replicates were used.

As test concentrations, measured by HPLC-DAD, resulted to be below the lowest calibration level (LCL) at start of exposure, effect values were given as nominal loading levels. Based on 6 % inhibition of growth rate and 28 % inhibition of yield after 72 h, ErL50 and EyL50 were both above 100 % (i.e. 100 mg/l).
