Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The -SO2F group can be converted to the sulfonic acid -SO3- by alkaly hydrolysis followed by acid treatment.

There is evidence that this reaction occurrs in alkaly conditions and it is favorited by high temperature, while at neutral and acid pH the hydrolysis of the -SO2F group is negligible.

No further data of hydrolysis for the molecule are available.

Additional information

Tests have been done in order to determine the hydrolysis kinetic at different temperature:

The -SO2F group is stable at acid and neutral pH at room temperature, 60,70 and 80°C . The hydrolysis in kinetically disadvantageous also due to the disomogenity of the system.

At pH 8 and pH 10 , T = 50°C, the group -SO2F hydrolyses completely in 12 hours to form the corresponding -SO3-.

At higher pH, T = 60 and 75 °C , the hydrolysis of the SO2F group is completed in few hours.

No further data of hydrolysis of the molecule are available.
