Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
November - December 2014
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))

Specific details on test material used for the study:
TEST MATERIAL
- Substance identification/name in the report: LZ 596
- Molecular formula: C21H30N2
- Batch no.: 1229
- Analysis date: August 12, 2014
- Date of production: August 11, 2014

STABILITY AND STORAGE CONDITIONS OF TEST MATERIAL
- Storage conditions: Controlled room temperature (15-25 ºC, below 70 RH%), protected from light and humidity.
- Stability under test conditions: stable for min. 3 years from manufacturing date
- Expiry date: August 10, 2017
- Safety precautions: Routine safety precautions (lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, face mask) for unknown materials were applied to assure personnel health and safety.
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

In the preliminary test the test item could not ignited. Based on the results of the preliminary test, no main test was performed. In addition, tests A.12 and A.13 were not conducted, as based on the chemical structure, the test item does neither react with water nor evolve any flammable gases in contact with (humid) air. Substance does not have self-heating properties. In conclusion, the test item was considered to be not flammable.

Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
The test item could not be ignited with a flame, therefore the test item is considered to be not flammable.
Executive summary:

The flammability test was performed following EC-method A.10. In the preliminary test the test item could not ignited. Based on the results of the preliminary test, no main test was performed. In addition, tests A.12 and A.13 were not conducted, as based on the chemical structure, the test item does neither react with water nor evolve any flammable gases in contact with (humid) air. Therefore, the test item was considered to be not flammable.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is completely molten at 160°C

Description of key information

Flammability

In the preliminary test the test item could not ignited. Based on the results of the preliminary test, no main test was performed. In addition, tests A.12 and A.13 were not conducted, as based on the chemical structure, the test item does neither react with water nor evolve any flammable gases in contact with (humid) air. Substance does not have self-heating properties. In conclusion, the test item was considered to be not flammable.

Self-heating properties

The test procedure for self-heating substances need not be applied because the substance is completely molten at 160 °C. The substance is not self-heating.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified
