The results from the short-term toxicity studies on terrestrial organisms show that zinc bis dimethyldithiocarbamate is acutely toxic to earthworms (LC50 (14d) = 140 mg a.i./kg dw soil) In a chronic toxicity study with earthworms a decrease in number of offspring was observed at the highest concentration of 20 kg formulation/ha. The resulting NOEC was 4.053 a.i./ha (4 kg formulation/ha). Furthermore effects to bird species were observed after acute oral and dietary exposure (LD50 = 97 mg a.i./kg bw and LC50 = 5156 ppm a.i., respectively).

No effects on honey bee survival were reported after 48 hours exposure to this substance via oral and contact routes. Due to the absence of adverse effects on plants growth and condition (NOEC-21d, 9 kg/ha (6.89 kg a.i./ha)), soil microflora activity (NOEC-56d, 40 kg/ha (30.4 kg a.i./ha)) and birds reproduction (NOEC-20w, 500 mg a.i./kg diet). Chronic toxicity is not expected in terrestrial organisms exposed to zinc bis dimethyldithiocarbamate due to its rapid biodegradation in the soil compartment with half-lives of < 2 days (aerobic) and 14 days (anaerobic).
