Description of key information

On the basis of QSAR estimations for the components, "reaction mass of butane and butene" is toxic to aquatic algae.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Since under environmental conditions the reaction mass consists of different gases distributing preferentially into the air, conducting a standard test on acute toxicity to aquatic algae is technically difficult. Therefore, the toxicity of the reaction mass was estimated by seperate QSAR calculations [ECOSAR v1.00 Classes] for the components. The L(E)C50 values of the components calculated for green algae range between 7.71 mg/L (butane, CAS 106 -97 -8) and 10.6 mg/L (1,3-butadiene, CAS 106-99-0).
