Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Short-term toxicity to fish:

The toxicity of Ethyl hexanoate was determined in a GLP study according to OECD 203 on Danio rerio. The LC50 of 6.74 mg/L was calculated from the geometric mean measured values of the LC0 and the LC100.

Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates:

The toxicity of Ethyl hexanoate to aquatic invertebrates was determined in a GLP study according to OECD 202 on Daphnia magna. The EC50 value of 36.0 mg/L (mean measured) was calculated from the EC0 and EC100.

Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria:

The toxicity of Ethyl hexanoate was determined in a GLP study according to OECD 201. The test substance was found to inhibit the growth of the freshwater green alga Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata after 72 hours with the following effect values (based on geometric mean measured concentrations): The EC50 values for the growth rate and yield inhibition were 11.8 mg/L and 9.97 mg/L, respectively. The EC10 values equals to 9.41 mg/L and 9.29 mg/L, respectively. The NOEC values for inhibition of both growth rate and yield were 5.23 mg/L.

Toxicity to microorganisms:

Based on the results from the toxicity control in the biodegradation study, no inhibitory effects on microorganisms were observed up to a substance concentration of 100 mg/L. The activated sludge test was, therefore, waived.
