Additional information

SMBT is an organic salt of strong base NaOH and weak acid of MBT and it is solely marketed as aqueous solution. The presence of MBT determines the hazard profile of SMBT aqueous solution; and hence the environmental fate and behavior of MBT is used as read-across approach to support the risk assessment of SMBT.

According to the interpretation from Swann, MBT has moderate adsorption potential in soil/sediment with the adsorption coefficient (log Koc) of 2.51- 3.55. MBT is essentially not volatile with the Henry's law constant H lower than 3.6*10-6 hPa m3/mol at 25°C from aquatic media according to the criteria of Thomas. The distribution calculation (Mackay level I) showed that the main target compartment for MBT is water with 95.96 %, followed by soil with 2.00 % and sediment 2.02 %.
