Additional information

Benzyltoluene is a clear, colourless liquid with a melting range of -79.9°C to -71.5°C and a boiling range of 283 -287°C. It has a density of 0.9950 g/cm3 at 19.5°C. Its vapour pressure is 0.66 Pa at 20°C and 1.01 Pa at 25°C.

Benzyltoluene has a flash point at 137.25 +/- 0.35°C and is thus not classified as flammable. Its auto ignition temperature is 510°C. Based on experience in handling and use, the substance is not pyrophoric and is not flammable on contact with water.

Based on its structure benzyltoluene is not expected to have explosive or oxydising properties.

The substance has a viscosity of 4.03 mm2/s at 20°C and 2.56 at 40°C.

According the ECHA decision CCH-D-2114527842-47-01/F, a new study in slow-stirring conditions was performed on the substance. In this study, the measured solubility was 3.97 mg/L at 20°C. However, in all aquatic studies, it was demonstrated that it will be complicated to achieve this solubility in test media.
