Reference
It was observed that the auto-ignition temperature of the test item decreased with increasing sample volume. The maximum volume tested was 1000 µL (1 mL). It was considered that the volume of 1 mL liquid produces about 200 – 250 mL of test item gas. According to this, the test vessel of 200 mL was completely filled with gas of the test item (i.e. air/oxygen was displaced). The auto-ignition temperature was 308°C and was considered to be representative for the test item. Ignition of the test item at the slightly lower volumes of 900 and 950 µL occurred at 319°C and 318°C, respectively. The maximum deviation for the three minimum values was < 20°C.
The lowest temperature at which ignition of the test item occurred (i.e. 308°C) was rounded down to the nearest multiple of 5°C giving an auto-ignition temperature of the test item of 305°C.
