Short-term toxicity to fish

Description of key information

Two short term toxicity to fish studies were carried out on the test material H-MI Ammonium salt. These were carried out in Rainbow Trout (OECD Guidelines for Testing of Chemicals (1992) No 203, "Fish, Acute Toxicity Test" referenced as Method C.1 of Commission Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008) and Zebra Fish (SEPA, P.R. China the Guidelines for the Testing of Chemical No. 203 “Fish, Acute Toxicity Test” (May 2004) and OECD, the OECD’s Guidelines for the Testing of Chemicals No. 203 (Adopted: 17th July 1992) “Fish, Acute Toxicity Test) respectively and gave comparible results of an LC50 greater than 100 mg/l and a NOEC of 100 mg/l. 
Both studies have been ranked 'reliability 1' according to the Klimisch et al scale as they were conducted in compliance with agreed protocols, with no or minor deviations from standard test guidelines and/or minor methodological deficiencies, which do not affect the quality of relevant results.

Although both studies were considered to be equally reliable according to the Klimish scale, the Acute Toxicity to Trout Study (Oncorhynchus mykiss) conducted to OECD Guideline 203 (Fish, Acute Toxicity Test) was selected as the key study overall. This decision was made based on the level of detail contained within this study report when compared to the supporting study report.

The acute toxicity of the test material to the freshwater fish rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) has been investigated and gave a 96-Hour LC50 of greater than 100 mg/l. Correspondingly the No Observed Effect Concentration was 100 mg/l.

The results showed that the 96-hour LC50 of H-MI Ammonium Salt to zebra fish (Brachydanio rerio), based on nominal concentration was greater than 100 mg/L. The 96-hour NOEC was greater than 100 mg/L.
