Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
oxidising liquids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with oxidising properties and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
the study does not need to be conducted because the organic substance contains oxygen or halogen atoms which are chemically bonded only to carbon or hydrogen and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Endpoint:
oxidising liquids
Type of information:
other: Expert statement
Adequacy of study:
supporting study
Study period:
From 2017-09-15 to 2017-09-29
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: Expert statement following the EC test A21 (liquids) under GLP conditiions
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.21 (Oxidising Properties (Liquids))

Key result
Sample tested:
other: Expert statement
Remarks on result:
other: The test item does not show any evidence of possessing oxidising properties

Examining the structural formula, the following observations are be made:

- The molecule does not contain any functional groups from the list of functional groups imparting oxidising properties.

- The proportion of electronegative atoms in the molecule is low (2 oxygen atoms out of an overall atom count of 49). Both

oxygen atoms are bound to carbon atoms. Furthermore, the electronegative atoms are not bound to one another, nor to any other electronegative elements. To conclude, the assessment against these two criteria indicates strongly that the molecule will not have oxidising properties.

In every respect of the oxidising liquids exemption procedure, the test item does not show any evidence of possessing oxidising properties.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Remarks:
Not oxidising
Conclusions:
On the basis of this exercise, the material should be considered as not oxidising and should not be subjected to experimental testing. The material meets all criteria for exemption from testing and has a structure not at all conducive with that required to exhibit oxidising tendencies.

Description of key information

The test substance was concluded from a GLP-compliant study not to have oxidising properties following a theoretical assessment of the chemical structure (Younis, 2017).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Oxidising properties:
non oxidising

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

The test substance needs not to be classified as an oxidising substance as based on the chemical structure the substance does not contain any chemical groups indicating oxidising properties.
