Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
readily biodegradable

Additional information

Sodium pyrithione, which is completely ionized in water, was shown to be readily biodegradable under the conditions of OECD 301B (see Table 5.2.1) in two separate studies.

The major non transient metabolite, pyridine sulphonic acid, was also shown to be readily biodegradable under the conditions of OECD 301B (5.2.1.003, EZPTF 7011-213).
