Description of key information

The LC50(96h) for the rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) was determined to be 63 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Fresh water fish

Fresh water fish
Effect concentration:
63 mg/L

Additional information

Tert-butyl methacrylate was tested in an acute toxicity study with Oncorhynchus mykiss under semi-static test conditions with analytical monitoring (Safepharm Laboratories, 2007). The test procedure followed OECD guideline 203. Nominal exposure concentrations were 10, 18, 32, 56 and 100 mg/L. The test concentrations were prepared by diluting a saturated solution prepared from an initial test material dispersion at 1000 mg/L. Based on measured test concentrations (geometric mean) the 96-hour LC50 was determined to be 63 mg/L.

Supporting study:

Tert-butyl methacrylate was tested in an acute toxicity study with Brachydanio rerio under static test conditions without analytical monitoring (BASF AG 1995). The test procedure followed OECD guideline 203. Nominal exposure concentrations were 46.4, 100, 215, 464 and 1000 mg/L. Based on nominal test concentrations the 96-hour LC50 was determined to be >215 and <464 mg/L.
