Conclusion on classification

Although no tests are available that assess the aquatic toxicity of L-isoleucine to the relevant trophic levels, the aquatic toxicity of the substance can be sufficiently assessed based on the information available for the read-across substances L-valine and L-alanine. This read-across is deemed justified based on a comparison of the main factors driving environmental toxicity: pH, water solubility, log Kow and chemical reactivity (functional groups).

 

Based on this read-across, it can be concluded that acute toxicity to fish, aquatic invertebrates or algae is not expected to occur upon exposure to up to >1000 mg/L of L-isoleucine.

In accordance with the criteria described in section 4.1.2.6 of regulation (EC) 1272/2008 on classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures (CLP), no classification for environmental toxicity is required.
