Description of key information

In a study to investigate the metabolism of Potassium Dodecyl [35S] Sulphate in the Rat, the chemical was absorbed after oral and intraperitoneal administration. It was also metabolized to butyric acid 4[35S]-sulphate, which may then be desulphated with the liberation of inorganic [35S] sulphate. In addition, bulk of the radioactivity was excreted in the urine within 12 hr, approximately 17% being eliminated as inorganic [35S] sulphate. Considering this rapid elimination of the chemical out of the living system, it can be concluded that the chemical is likely to have low bio-accumulation potential.

Free-ranging male and female rats were injected intraperitoneally with potassium dodecyl [35S] sulphate (1 mg. dissolved in 1 ml. of water). Male rats received potassium dodecyl [35S]sulphate orally. The chemical was absorbed after oral and intraperitoneal administration. It was also metabolized to butyric acid 4[35S]-sulphate as the major metabolite and about 20% as inorganic [35S] sulphate. Bulk of the radioactivity was excreted in the urine within 12 hr. Considering this rapid elimination of the chemical out of the living system, it can be concluded that the chemical is likely to have low bio-accumulation potential.
