Additional information

The ready biodegradability of isobutyl vinyl ether (CAS 109-53-5) was investigated according to OECD TG 310. The inoculum was activated sludge from a wastewater treatment plant treating predominantly municipal wastewater. The test was performed in closed vessels due to the significant volatility of the test item. The validity criteria of the guideline OECD 310 were met. Isobutyl vinyl ether was degraded by 72% TIC/ThIC after 28 days (BASF SE, 2020. GLP. Report no. 27G0186/03G017). The 10-d window was met.  It can be concluded that the test substance is readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria. This study was selected as key study.

The ready biodegradability was confirmed by the supporting study. The assessment of biotic degradation of isobutyl vinyl ether was investigated in a GLP test according to OECD TG 310 using municipal activated sludge as inoculum (BASF 2004, 2018; Report no. 27G0186/033034). After 28 days a TIC/ThIC removal of 68 +/- 8% was measured. The 10-day window was fulfilled (68% TIC/ThIC removal at the end of the 10-day window). Hence, isobutyl vinyl ether is readily biodegradable.
