Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In case of the toxicity to microorganisms, the assessment is based on experimental data from the read-across to the structurally similar substances CAS 1328-53-6 and CAS 147-14-8. In a key study conducted according to ISO 8192 with domestic activated sludge the 30-min EC20 for the structurally similar substance CAS 147-14-8 was determined to be ca. 750 mg/L (BASF AG, 1988). The 3-h EC50 was found to be higher than 10000 mg/L in the second study with activated sludge conducted according to OECD 209 (Huntington Ltd, 1988). Additional experimental data are available for the source substance CAS 1328-53-6. In a study with Pseudomonas putida according to DIN 38412-8 the 30-min EC10 for CAS 1328-53-6 was determined to be > 10000 mg/L (BASF AG, 1988).

Based on the available experimental data from the read-across approach, it can be concluded that inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when CAS 27614 -71 -7 is introduced in appropriately low concentrations.
