To assess the short-term toxicity of CAS 27614 -71 -7 to aquatic invertebrates, read across was performed to the structural analogue substances CAS 1328-53-6 and CAS 147-14-8.

The toxicity of CAS 147-14-8 to Daphnia magna was tested in a study following EU Directive 79/831/EEC. The animals were exposed to the test substance for 48 hours and an EC50 >500 mg/l was determined (BASF AG 1989). However, a solubiliser was used in this test. The result is supported by two further studies on CAS 147-14-8 conducted in compliance with EEC Directive 93/32/EEC. In both studies an EC50 (48h) >100 mg/l was determined (BASF AG 2001, 2004).

The results of two further tests conducted with CAS 1328-53-6 are comparable to the data obtained for CAS 147-14-8. The toxic effect of the substance on D. magna was investigated in a study following directive 84/449/EEC, C.2. The test substance was dissolved in the test water by using a solubiliser. After 48 hours the test was terminated and an EC50 (48h) of >500 mg/l was detected (BASF AG 1988). Corresponding data were collected by a study following US EPA guideline EPA-660/3-75-009 determining an EC50 of 153.6 mg/l (Union Carbide Corporation 1978).
