Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
the study does not need to be conducted because the organic substance does not contain metals or metalloids and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Justification for type of information:
In accordance with section 1 of REACh Annex XI, study for flammability if contact with water is deemed unnecessary based on the chemical structure that does not fall into critical categories described in ECHA guidance, and based on the experience in handling, testing and use of the substance.
Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
September 2016
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Remarks:
The study was conducted according to an internationally recognised method, and under GLP. No deviation was reported. Test substance is adequately specified. Therefore full va lidation applies.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Test N.1 (Test method for readily combustible solids)
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes
Key result
Test procedure:
burning time (test type not further specified)
Remarks on result:
other: The test item ignited and blackened at the contact of the flame of the gas burner. No propagation was observed
Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
The test item is NOT classified as a flammable solid according to Regulation (EC) N°1272/2008 (CLP) and UN GHS criteria.
Executive summary:

The test substance was tested for its flammable properties following UN TDG Method N.1.

The test substance ignited and blackened on application of the ignition source and burned with a hot flame of the gas burner.

There was no propagation along the test pile. No further testing was necessary.

The test substance was found not flammable solid beacuse it did not propagate in the preliminary screening test

Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the organic substance does not contain metals or metalloids and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be soluble in water to form a stable mixture
Justification for type of information:
In accordance with section 1 of REACh Annex XI, study for flammability if contact with water is deemed unnecessary based on the chemical structure that does not fall into critical categories described in ECHA guidance, and based on the experience in handling, testing and use of the substance.

Description of key information

No propagation in contact with a flame: not a flammable solid (CLP/GHS)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

As the substance is a solid, the relevant test for flammable properties is the flammability under ignition.

A reliable experimental study is presented under point 4.13.

Based on the chemical structure and experience, no flammable properties are anticipated if contact with air or water, therefore studies were deemed unnecessary

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to Regulation (EC) No.1272/2008 (CLP) and UN Globally Harmonised System (GHS) criteria, the substance as solid failed to propagate combustion in the preliminary test (identical in EC A10 and UN N1 tests), therefore itis NOT classified as a flammable solid.
