Adequate chronic toxicity data are not available for Leucophor 1111X, therefore the aquatic toxicity assessment and classification are based mainly on the short-term toxicity data available on analogous substances.

Leucophor 1111X is expected to have a negative log kow (indicating a low potential for bioaccumulation) and it is considered as not rapidly degradable.

According to the CLP Regulation (EC 1272/2008), acute aquatic toxicity is normally determined using a fish 96-hour LC50, a crustacean species 48-hour EC50 and/or an algal species 72- or 96-hour EC50. These species cover a range of trophic levels and taxa and are considered as surrogate for all aquatic organisms.

Data are available for fish (different specie), Daphnia magna and algae (different specie).

No mortality or other visible abnormalities were recorded in both fish and Daphnia m. tests, during the test periods; on the contrary, a statistically significant inhibitory effect was observed in the alga test, as the mean growth rate at concentrations of 46 mg/l and above. Furthermore, the mean biomass was statistically significantly reduced first at the next higher test concentration of 100 mg/l. However the biomass was clearly lower than in the control. Nevertheless, the 72-hour EC50 was determined to be greater than 100 mg/l (Seyfried, 2006).

No long-term studies are proposed, since direct and indirect exposure is unlikely due to the risk management measures that will be applied at industrial level and discussed in details within the exposure scenario to avoid any release of the substance directly in the municipal waste water treatment.
