Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Due to the lack of details in the available study on Disperse Blue 073, a read across approach was used in order to complete the assessment for toxicity to aquatic algae. A detailed description of the read across chosen is reported in section 13.

One test is available on similar substance 1 (Huntsman, 1997), where acute toxicity of the test substance to Daphnia magna was determined according to OECD guideline 202 "Daphnia sp., Acute Immobilization Test." The test gave EC50 (48 h) > 80.3 mg/l, in terms of active ingredient. In particular, 80.3 mg/l corresponds to EC5.

Water solubility of the tested substance is << 0.02 g/l as determined by the flask method in OECD guideline 105. This implies that, at concentrations tested, an amount of test substance is undissolved (1) (2). However, available data in the test indicates that no immobilization is seen at concentration of 45 mg/l and 5 % immobilization (1/20 organisms) at 100 mg/l, but no data is available whether such immobilization is caused by inherent toxicity or physical effects of undissolved substance.

Therefore, on these bases, it can be concluded that the substance is non-toxic to Daphnia magna at the concentrations tested in excess of water solubility.
