Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Short-term toxicity to fish

In a semi-static short term toxicity to fish test the 96-hour LC50 of the reaction mass for zebrafish (Danio rerio) was determined to be 117 mg/L.

Long-term toxicity to fish

According to REACH Annex IX section 9.1 column 2 the study does not need to be conducted as the Chemical Safety Report (CSR) does not show a need to investigate further the effects on aquatic organisms. The substance  has a log Kow of 3 (i.e. -0.69) and is readily biodegradable. Furthermore, it is intended for industrial use only.

Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

The acute immobilisation of the test item to daphnia magna was determined according to OECD guideline 202. The EC50 value after 48 h was determined to be > 100 mg/L.

Long-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

According to REACH Annex IX section 9.1 column 2 the study does not need to be conducted as the Chemical Safety Report (CSR) does not show a need to investigate further the effects on aquatic organisms. The substance  has a log Kow of 3 (i.e. -0.69) and is readily biodegradable. Furthermore, it is intended for industrial use only.

Toxicity to alga and cyanobacteria

The toxicity of the reaction mass to the unicellular freshwater green alga Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata was determined according to the principles of OECD 201 (2011) and Council Regulation (EC) No 761/2009 C.3. After 72 hours the NOEC was determined to be 31.6 mg/L, the ErC10 was determined to be 50.7 mg/L and the ErC50 was determined to be 95.4 mg/L for growth. For yield the NOEC was determined to be 10.0 mg/L, the EyC10 was determined to be 33.4 mg/L and the EyC50 was determined to be 57.9 mg/L after 72 h.

Toxicity to microorganisms

The study is not required as the substance is found to be readily biodegradable and the applied test concentrations are in the range of concentrations that can be expected in the influent of a sewage treatment plant.

According to the ECHA Guidance document R7b, no further test on the toxicity to microorganisms has to be conducted if the toxicity control in a ready biodegradability test shows no inhibitory effects on microorganisms. As the toxicity control in the Closed Bottle Ready biodegradability test showed no inhibition of the microbial activity at a substance concentration of 110 mg/L, no further test is necessary to evaluate the respiration inhibition of activated sludge. The concentration used in the toxicity control (110 mg/L) can be used as NOEC value.
