Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Validity criteria fulfilled:
- yes
- Remarks:
- yes - no mortality in the control, oxygen concentrations did not drop in the screening test, no oxygen measurements reported for the main test due to equipment failure. Results based on measured concentrations due to loss of the test substance.
- Conclusions:
- The 96 h LC50 of Rhodium (III) chloride hydrate to Leuciscus idus melanotus was 220 mg/L, corresponding to 86 mg Rh/L (assuming test item is rhodium trichloride, trihydrate).
- Executive summary:
Kemp (1995) is a GLP compliant study following OECD guideline 203. The loss of the test substance was taken into account by reporting results based on measured concentrations. pH was outside the desired limits, oxygen measurements could not be recorded during the main test, and there are some limitations with the reporting of the methods. However, despite the limitations this study is considered valid and suitable for use as a key study for this endpoint. The 96 h LC50 of Rhodium (III) chloride hydrate to Leuciscus idus melanotus was 220 mg/L, corresponding to 86 mg Rh/L (assuming test item is rhodium trichloride, trihydrate).
