Description of key information

The test item MCPP-P 2-EHE hydrolyses relatively fast to the corresponding degradation products - acid (MCPP-P acid, CAS 16484-77-8) and alcohol (2 -ethylhexan-1-ol, CAS 104 -76-7). In studies on aquatic toxicity with the alcohol was determined that the most sensitive specie is the aquatic algae with an EC10 in the same range as the one determined for the MCPP-P acid. The alcohol is not classified with respect to the encironment (please refer to the ECHA Disseminated dossier of CAS 104-67-7). Therefore, the read-across was based on the other degradation product - MCPP-P acid, as it is considered that the acid is the degradation product that shows a relevant effect on the environment.

Short-term toxicity to fish:

In a flow-through system according to the OECD Guideline 203 for MCPP-P acid a 96h-LC50 of 76.4 mg/l and a 96h-NOEC of 41.5 mg/L were observed on Oncorhynchus mykiss.

Long-term toxicity to fish:

In a prolonged toxicity test with MCPP-P acid in a flow-through system according to the OECD Guideline 204, a 28 d-NOEC of 50 mg/L was obseved on Oncorhynchus mykiss.

Short-term toxicity to invertebrates:

In a static toxicity test, according to OECD Guideline 202, for MCPP-P acid a 48h-EC50 of > 91 mg/L and a 48h-NOEC of 91 mg/L were observed.

Long-term toxicity to invertebrates:

For MCPP-P acid, the hydrolysis product of MCPP-P 2-EHE, a 21d-NOEC of 22.2 mg/L was determined for toxicity to reproduction on Daphnia magna.

Toxicity to aquatic algae:

For MCPP-P acid, the hydrolysis product of MCPP-P 2-EHE, a 72h-EC50 of 23.9 mg/L and a 72h-NOEC of 5.96 mg/L were determined on the alga Anabaena flos-aquae.

Toxicity to microorganisms:

The toxicity to microorganisms was investigated with MCPP-P acid (read-across). In a static test system according to DIN 38412 part 8 for MCPP-P acid a 17h-EC50 of 170 mg/L and a 17h-NOEC of 12 mg/L was observed.
