For 2,2,4 (or 2,4,4)-trimethylhexane-1,6 -diisocyanate acute studies with organisms from 3 different trophic levels are available. For all tests a stock solution was prepared with a concentration of 1 g/L. The solution was stirred for 18 hours and filtered afterwards.

The acute toxicity of the test substance to Brachydanio rerio was evaluated in a semi static fish test over a period of 96 hours (Hüls AG 1994) according to EU method C.1. Five concentrations ranging from 100 to 1000 mg/L (nominal) were tested. The test substance was found to be stable under the test conditions (DOC determination). The LC50 (96 hours) was determined to be >328 mg/L.

A static test over a period of 48 hours was performed with Daphnia magna according to EU method C.2. Seven concentrations ranging from 39.5 to 316.0 mg/L (nominal) were tested and the EC50 (48 h) was determined as 64 mg/L (95% CL: 48.7 - 84.1%).

The toxicity to algae (Scenedesmus subspicatus) was evaluated in a static test over a period of 72 hours (Hüls AG 1993) according to EU method C.3. Five concentrations ranging from 28.0 to 253.0 mg/L (nominal) were tested. The ErC50 (72 h) was determined as >256 mg/L. The NOEC was determined as 170 mg/L. The lowest valid EC50 value is 64 mg/L.
