Description of key information
SKIN IRRITATION:
The primary irritant/corrosive effect of undiluted chlorobenzene, has been tested on rabbit skin according to "OECD TG No. 404" without deviations (Suber H, 1983.). Based on the observations the substance was evaluated to be an irritant to the skin
EYE IRRITATION:
The primary irritation/corrision effect of chlorobenzene on rabbits´eyes was tested (Suberg H., 1983.). Chlorobenzene caused mild effectswhich were reversible within 7 days. overall chlorobenzene was evaluated to be non-irritating to the eyes of rabbis

SKIN IRRITATION: The primary irritant/corrosive effect of pure chlorobenzene, has been tested on rabbit skin according to "OECD Guideline for Testing of Chemicals No. 404" without deviations (Suberg H, 1983). 3 New Zealand White rabbits have been tested with 0.5 mL of pure chlorobenzene for 4 hour-day exposure followed by expsoure period of 14 days. The evaluation was performed according to Draize
All 3 animals showed marked erythema and edema on the application sites. The intensity of the skin reaction pertained the margins of the application sites. Until 3 days after the treatment skin desquamation was observed. No significant differences in skin reaction appeared among each animals. . Mean scores over 24, 48, and 72 hours of all animals were 2.7 of max 4 for erythema and 1 of max 4 for edema. These effects were fully reversible within 6 days
EYE IRRITATION: The primary irritation/corrision effect of chlorobenzene on rabbits´eyes was tested (Suberg H., 1983) according to "OECD Guideline for Testing of Chemicals No. 405" (without deviations). 3 New Zealand albino rabbits were treated 0.1 mL of the test substance in the conjunctival sac of one eye. The other eye was not treated and was used as control. The ocular reactions were assessed 1, 24, 48, and 72 hours after application, and the evaluation was performed according to Draize. The ocular reactions were reversible in all animals within 7days after application. The avarage score (24 to 72 hours) for irritation was calculated to be 0.1 for opacity, 0.9 for conjunctival redness, 0.4 for chemosis and 0 for iris.

Justification for classification or non-classification
According to Annex VI of the Regulation 1272/2008 ECchlorobenzene is not classified for irritation.
Based on the available results of the skinn irritation test and according to the EU-GHS regulations it is proposed to classify chlorobenzene as "Skin irritation cat 2, H315".
