Description of key information

Data describing the acute aquatic toxicity of Gadolinium zirconium oxide are available for invertebrates (Daphnia magna) and algae (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata).

Within an acute toxicity study according to the OECD Guideline 202, conducted as limit test, the 48-h acute toxicity of Gadolinium zirconium oxide to Daphnia magna was studied under static conditions. Daphnids were exposed to the test chemical at loading rates of 0 and 100 mg/L for 48 h. The EC50 could not be calculated. The Lowest/No Observed Effect Loading Rates are as follows: NOELR (48 h) 100 mg/L and LOELR (48 h) > 100 mg/L.

The toxicity of Gadolinium zirconium oxide to cultures of Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata after 72 h (growth inhibition test) was investigated in accordance with the OECD Guideline 201. The test was conducted as limit test with 100 mg/L Gadolinium zirconium oxide. A 72 h ErC50 could not be calculated, as no inhibition occurred during the test: inhibition of yield (72 h) = -1.1 %, inhibition of growth (72 h) -1.6 %. TheLowest/NoObservedEffectLoadingRates based on the growth rate are as follows: NOELR 100 mg/L, LOELR>100 mg/L.
