Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The substance is considered as not rapidly degradable based on a BOD5/COD ratio lower than 0.5.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

No information is available on the substance itself, thus the assessment relied on a read across approach.

Solvent Red 122 (acid) and Similar Substance 02 (sodium salt) are chromium complexes with 2 ligands. In both cases, the 2 ligands have the same chemical structure, i.e. a phenyl ring connected via diazo bond to a phenyl pyrazole. These ligands show minor differences in the position of substituents, i.e. hydroxy and nitro groups, as well as in the presence of a sulfonate group in Similar Substance 02. Such minor structural differences along with salification cause an enhanced water solubility. However, this is not relevant for the biodegradation potential.

All information about the read across process is inserted in section 13.

Similar Substance 02 gave no evidence of rapid degradation in the available study, where a BOD5/COD = 3 % was found. Therefore, Solvent Red 122 was considered as non rapidly degradable.
