Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2009
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
GLP compliance:
yes
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period
Test procedure:
ignition time on contact with air
Remarks:
Ignition on contact with air refers to either Pyrophoric solids or Pyrophoric liquids depending on physical state (migrated information).
Remarks on result:
no ignition on contact with air (not further specified)
Remarks:
corresponding to 'no' in migrated source record.

Preliminary test: brief burning and rapid extinction was observed.

Main test: Omitted due to the result of the preliminary test.

The test substance is not considered as highly flammable.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
The test substance is not considered as highly flammable.
Executive summary:

In this guideline (EU A-10) study conducted with GLP certification, the test material (EC 213-426-9) was determined not to meet the criteria for classification as a flammable solid under the EU Classificaiton, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) regulation (1272/2008). The test material ignited briefly, but rapidly extinguished and failed to propagate.

Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be soluble in water to form a stable mixture

Description of key information

Flammable solids study carried out according to guideline and with GLP compliance.

Data waiving, studies scientifically unnecessary. Through manufacture and handling experience the substance is known not to be pyrophoric, and to form stable mixtures with water.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

- Upon ignition the test substance was brief burning and rapid extinction during the preliminary test.

- Based on chemical structure and experience in handling and use of substance the pyrophoric properties and the flammability in contact with water are not to be expected.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based upon the key studies and data waivers, the substance was determined not to meet the criteria for classification as a a flammable solid under the EU Classification, Labelling, and Packaging (CLP) regulation (1272/2008).
