Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Testing on the aquatic compartment was considered not necessary as alternatives to testing were available and they demonstrated to be sufficient to fulfil the legal requirements related to ecotoxicological information. Therefore, the general rules for adaption 1.2, and 1.3 of Annex XI of REACH regulation were applied. The results obtained from QSARs models indicated the absence of hazardous to the aquatic environment and the testing of the registered substance was considered not reasonable. Furthermore, read across data from a similar substance was used as supporting information.

The environmental hazard assessment was conducted based on the available data of the registered substance. The following key information from aquatic invertebrates, fish, algae and microorganisms studies have been used to evaluate the aquatic toxicity of the target substance:

Toxicity to algae: 72h EC50: 109.12 mg/L

Toxicity to invertebrates: 48h LC50: 2.4 mg/L; EC50: 0.225 mg/L

Toxicity to fish: 96h LC50: 58.44 mg/L

Toxicity to microorganisms (toxicity results of OECD 301B): NOEC 2 mg/l.

Quinolin-8 -ol is a water-soluble substance as demonstrated in the OECD 105 test. PNEC values were derived from studies conducted with the test substance in accordance with the “Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.10”.
