Reference
Endpoint:
water solubility
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: Information from published review article in peer reviewed literature, minor restrictions in design and/or reporting but otherwise adequate for assessment.
Qualifier:
no guideline followed
Principles of method if other than guideline:
A simplified water solubility test was followed. A known quantity of the test item was weighed into a conical flask and 20 mL of water was added. The flasks were stoppered and agitated in an orbital shaker water bath. After 24 hours, flasks are removed and allowed to equilibrate for 24 hours prior to filtering with a 0.1 μm cellulose nitrate membrane filter. ICP-OES was used to determine the concentration of the PGM in the resulting solution.
GLP compliance:
not specified
Type of method:
flask method
Water solubility:
> 10 g/L
Temp.:
20 °C
pH:
1.2
Remarks on result:
other: Temperature not reported, therefore assumed standard
Details on results:
The amount of test material used was sufficient to produce a saturated solution for substances with water solubility below 10 g/L. For substance that were soluble at this level, >10 g/L was reported as the limit of solubility.

Water solubility of substance using the simplified test;

Substance  CAS Number  Water solubility (g/L)  pH
 Palladium dinitrate  10102-05-3  >10  1.2
Conclusions:
The water solubility of palladium dinitrate has been determined to be >10 g/L of solution using a simplified water solubility test.
Executive summary:

Information from a published review article in peer reviewed literature, minor restrictions in design and/or reporting but otherwise adequate for assessment. The water solubility of palladium dinitrate has been determined to be >10 g/L of solution using a simplified water solubility test.

Description of key information

The water solubility of palladium dinitrate has been determined to be >10 g/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
10 g/L
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

Gregory (2014) is a non-GLP, modified guideline study. It is available as a published report and is acceptable for use as the key study for this endpoint. The water solubility of palladium dinitrate has been determined to be >10 g/L.

Winde (2011) is a non-GLP, non-guideline experimental study, but the method is well described and this is used as supporting data. Palldium(II)nitrat-hydrate hydrolyses in water and precipitates after time.
