Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
auto-flammability
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: UN Recommendations on the Transport of Danegerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria, Fifth Revised Edition (2009)
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP-/GHS-regulation)
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The full N4 test was not required for this substance as the melting point was considered to be <160°C based on the DSC measurement.
GLP compliance:
no
Key result
Remarks on result:
not measured/tested
Remarks:
The test item has low melting point (< 160 °C) and should not be classified as self-heating because the melting process is endothermic and the substance-air surface is reduced.

Conclusions:
Palladium (II) nitrate hydrate does not fulfil the criteria of Class 4.2 "Self-heating Substances" of the UN-TDG and the Hazard Class "Self-heating substances and mixtures" of the Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (CLP-/GHS-Regulation).
Executive summary:

Palladium (II) nitrate hydrate was assessed for auto-flammability following the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria fifth Edition (2009) and Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP-/GHS-regulation).

Differential Scanning Calorimetry was performed to characterise the test item. During the DSC analysis Palladium (II) nitrate hydrate showed endothermic peaks, for example melting peaks. The test item has low melting point (<160 °C) and therefore does not fulfil the criteria of Class 4.2 "Self-heating Substances" of the UN-TDG and the Hazard Class "Self-heating substances and mixtures" of the Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (CLP-/GHS-Regulation) as the melting process is endothermic and the substance-air surface is reduced. The full N4 test was therefore not conducted.

Endpoint:
relative self-ignition temperature (solids)
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a solid having a melting point <= 160°C

Description of key information

Palladium (II) nitrate hydrate does not fulfil the criteria of Class 4.2 "Self-heating Substances" of the UN-TDG and the Hazard Class "Self-heating substances and mixtures" of the Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (CLP-/GHS-Regulation).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Palladium (II) nitrate hydrate was assessed for auto-flammability following the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria fifth Edition (2009) and Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP-/GHS-regulation) (Michael-Schulz 2016).
