Executive summary:

Palladium (II) nitrate hydrate was assessed for auto-flammability following the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria fifth Edition (2009) and Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP-/GHS-regulation).

Differential Scanning Calorimetry was performed to characterise the test item. During the DSC analysis Palladium (II) nitrate hydrate showed endothermic peaks, for example melting peaks. The test item has low melting point (<160 °C) and therefore does not fulfil the criteria of Class 4.2 "Self-heating Substances" of the UN-TDG and the Hazard Class "Self-heating substances and mixtures" of the Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (CLP-/GHS-Regulation) as the melting process is endothermic and the substance-air surface is reduced. The full N4 test was therefore not conducted.
