Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
explosive properties of explosives
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance contains chemical groups associated with explosive properties which include oxygen, but the calculated oxygen balance is less than - 200
Justification for type of information:
The study does not need to be conducted, although there is a structural alert for explosivity (epoxy group) the calculated oxygen balance of the known consituents are all less than -200. This approach is consistent with ECHA Guidance on Information Requirements and Chemical Safety ASsessment, Chapter R.7a.

Oxygen balance calculations:
Constiuent 1: 32.1 % (C18H30O2): -281.6
Constiuent 2: 37.2 % (C18H30O2): -281.6
Constiuent 3: 0.4 % (C18H30O2): -281.6
Constiuent 4: 2.7 % (C18H30O): -304.8
Constiuent 5: 1.8 % (C18H30O3): -260.8
Constiuent 6: 3.8 % (C17H28O2): -278.4
Constiuent 7: 3.4 (C18H30O3): -260.8
Constiuent 8: 2.9 (C18H30O3): -260.8
Constiuent 9: 2 (C18H30O3): -260.8

Description of key information

Explosiveness: non-explosive based on structural assessment of the substance and calculated oxygen balance < -200 for known constituents.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

In accordance with REACH Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 Annex VII, column 2 section 7.11 the study does not need to be conducted based on structural assessment of the substance. Whilst the substance contains a structural alert for explosivity (epoxy group), the calculated oxygen balance for each constituent is < - 200 (all constituents oxygen balance = < -260). Furthermore, handling and use confirm that the substance does not have explosive properties. According to ECHA Guidance on Information Requirements and Chemical Safety Assessment (Chapter R.7a: Endpoint Specific Guidance, R.7.1.11, December 2016) the study does not need to be conducted.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The substance does not meet classification criteria under Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 for explosivity.
