Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Results and discussion

Details on results:
Results study X01-199 (Gasir 5 in the powder form)
Specific surface area (N-BET) = 1.54 m2/g
Total exposed surface at a 1mg/L loading = 1540 mm2/L
Based on the exposed surface in case of a 1 mg/L loading using Ø 1 mm spheres (as proposed for massives in the OECD No 29 test guidance) an actual exposure of 1540/1.299 = 1186 mg/L was tested. Therefore, the results of TD study X01-199 may be corrected for the actual exposed surface. Comment to study X01-199: where all data points up to and including day 14 showed to match a very good curve fit (for As and Se), the 28 days data points seem to be outliers. Possibly due to shrinking particles passing the filters during sampling. However, this anomaly does not influence the final conclusion.

Results study X01-200 (Gasir 5 massive form; lens of Ø17 mm x 6 mm)
Total surface of 1 lens = 734.2 mm2
A total of 734.2 mm2 (i.e. 1 lens) was exposed to 1884 mL test medium or 389.7 mm2/L
Based on the exposed surface in case of a 1 mg/L loading using Ø 1 mm spheres (as proposed for massives in the OECD No 29 test guidance) an actual exposure of 389.7/1.299 = 300 mg/L was tested. Therefore, the results of TD study X01-200 may be corrected for the actual exposed surface. No stoichiometric release of arsenic and selenium could be observed. Relative more arsenic went into solution comparing to selenium. This was even more clear in the massive study.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
No stoichiometric release of arsenic and selenium could be observed. Relative more arsenic went into solution comparing to selenium. This was even more clear in the massive study.
