Description of key information

Appearance:

On the basis of physical observation, the chemical 2-hydroxy-1H-isoindole-1,3(2H)-dione was observed to be white coloured amorphous powder in appearance.

Melting point:

The melting point determination of 2-hydroxy-1H-isoindole-1,3(2H)-dione (CAS No. 524-38-9) was done following OECD Guideline 102 and according to the metal block capillary method. The test was conducted in replicates and mean melting temperature range was determined to be 230.8- 233.6°C at 975.4hPa.

Boiling point:

The boiling point determination of 2-hydroxy-1H-isoindole-1,3(2H)-dione (CAS No. 524-38-9) was done following OECD Guideline 103 and according to the method of Siwoloboff. The test item  does not show string of bubbles upto 300 °C inferring to be greater than 300°C at 976.2 hPa.

Density:

The density of test item 2-hydroxy-1H-isoindole-1,3(2H)-dione (CAS No. 524-38-9)was determined following OECD Guideline 109 and according to the Adapted from ASTM D854-02 using glass pyknometer. The mean density of 2-hydroxy-1H-isoindole-1,3(2H)-dione was determined to be 1.616 g/cm³ at 20°C and 977.0 hPa.

Particle Size Distribution:

The particle size distribution of test item N-hydroxyphthalimide (CAS No. 524-38-9 ) was determined by granulometric analysis with rotap sieve shaker. The particle size distribution was determined to be in the range of 150 micron to 25 micron.

Vapor Pressure:

MPBPVP v1.43 was used to estimate the vapor pressure of 2-hydroxyphthalimide. The estimated vapor pressure of 2-hydroxyphthalimide at 25 degC was 6.2E-008Pa.

Data from handbooks and authoritative databases suggest that the estimated vapor pressure of 2-hydroxyphthalimide at 25 degC was 3.27E-008Pa.

Partition Coefficient:

Data from handbooks and authoritative databases suggest that the estimated logPow of N-hydroxyphthalimide was 0.14.

Based on these values,N-hydroxyphthalimide can be considered to be hydrophillic in nature

Water Solubility:

WSKOW v1.42 was used to estimate the water solubility of 2-hydroxyphthalimide. The estimated water solubility of 2-hydroxyphthalimide at 25 deg C was 50450 mg/l.

Data from handbooks and authoritative databases suggests that the estimated water solubility of 2-hydroxyphthalimide at 25 deg C was 50500 mg/l.

These value indicates that 2 -hydroxyphthalimide is highly soluble in water.

Explosiveness:

The study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties

Oxidising properties:

The study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with oxidising properties and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied

Viscosity:

The study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a solid
