One study, investigating the toxicity to Pseudomonas putida of the read-across substance Fatty acids, C16-18 (even numbered) and C18-unsatd., branched and linear, di- and triesters with trimethylolpropane (CAS 85005-23-8), is available. This substance is structurally and compositionally related to fatty acids, C16-18 (even numbered) and C16-18-unsatd. (even numbered), triesters with trimethylolpropane (CAS 68002-79-9). This read-across is justified in detail in the overall summary (IUCLID Section 6.1) and within the category justification in IUCLID Section 13. In this case of read-across, the best suited (highest degree of structural similarity, nearest physico-chemical properties) read-across substance was used for the assessment. Nevertheless, as it can be seen in the data matrix of the category justification in section 13 and the overall summary (IUCLID section 6.1), all reliable data in the category support the hazard assessment of each category member by showing a consistent pattern of results.
The cell multiplication inhibition test with the read-across substance Fatty acids, C16-18 (even numbered) and C18-unsatd., branched and linear, di- and triesters with trimethylolpropane (CAS 85005-23-8) was performed according to ISO 10712 and resulted in an EL10 and EL50 (16 h) > 10000 mg/L (Pateman, 1997). No effects on the growth of Pseudomonas putida was observed at the WAF loading rate of 10000 mg/L (clearly above the water solubility of read across and target substance (< 1 mg/L)). Based on the results of the analogue substance, it can be concluded that no toxicological effects on microorganisms are expected for fatty acids, C16-18 (even numbered) and C16-18-unsatd. (even numbered), triesters with trimethylolpropane (CAS 68002-79-9). Furthermore, the biodegradation tests exhibit the readily biodegradability of the test substance. Thus, a disturbance in the biodegradation process of sewage treatment plant is not anticipated.
