Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

2 Ames assays with W. typhimurium strains TA 1535, 100, 1537, and E. coli WP2 uvrA were performed according to the OECD guideline 471 with and without metabolic activation (BASF AG, 1998). The test substances applied were identified as anone oil split and anone oil unsplit in dose levels up to 5000 µg/plate. Both assays were clearly negative in the absence and presence of a metabolic activation system.

Though, due to the phenol content of >1% a classification is indicated based on the CLP Directive1272/2008. Phenol is classified as muta cat 2 (R68) resulting in a concentration limit relevant for the classification of a mixture of >1%.

Phenol was legally classified by the EU Classification and Labelling Working Group as “suspected of causing genetic effects” based on an anticipated mutagenic effects on somatic cells (EU risk assessment, 2006). No gene mutation in bacteria was observed with phenol.

Short description of key information:
2 negative Ames assays available for the test substance. Though due to phenol content >1% classification as muta cat 2 (GHS) or R68 (EU).

Endpoint Conclusion: No adverse effect observed (negative)

Justification for classification or non-classification

2 negative Ames assays available for the test substance. Though due to phenol content >1% classification as muta cat 2 (GHS) or R68 (EU).
