Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment

PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

Persistence Assessment

In a Manometric Respirometry Test according to OECD 301 F no biodegradation was observed over a period of 28 days while a functional control (benoic acid, sodium salt) demonstrated the activity of the system.

Therefore, C.I. Pigment Orange 43 is regarded as poorly biodegradable (presumably due to a very restricted bioavailability caused by very low water solubility of 7.2 µg/L). This is in agreement with the desired technological function as pigment. The P- criterion is accepted.

Bioaccumulation Assessment

Due to the low log pow of 0.26, the substance has a low potential for bioaccumulation. The log pow of the substance is very much lower than the threshold value of the screening criterion for B (log pow > 4.5). The B-criterion is not fulfilled.

Toxicity Assessment

The substance is non toxic to mammalian and aquatic organisms. The substance is neither classified for environmental toxicity nor as germ cell mutagen (1A, 1B), carcinogen (1A, 1B), reproductive toxicant (1A, 1B, 2) or specific target organ toxicant after repeated exposure (Cat 1 or 2). It can be concluded that the substance has no toxic properties.
