Additional information

Based on the environmental release of TGIC as outlined by NICNAS (1994), and calculated by the EPIWIN environmental distribution and transport model indicate that TGIC will be present preferentially in the aquatic and sediment compartments, but not in air and soil. As only aquatic short-term test have been performed with fish, Daphnia and algae as well as sludge bacteria, large assessment factors had to be used. Calculation of the respective PNECs in soil, sediment, STP, marine water have been performed according to the guidance formulas supplied by ECHA.

Conclusion on classification

Based on the toxicity to algae and the fact that it is not ready biodegradable in sewage treatment plants, TGIC is not classified for the environment, but labelled with R52/53.

The lowest PNEC aqua (marin water) is 0.0029 mg/l when using a model calculation for marin water, and the highest PNEC is 10 mg/l for the bacteria in sewage treatment plants. Thus, the values are between 6 - 100 micrograms/l which will leave some room for safety in the environmental risk assessment.
