A number of acute aquatic toxicity tests with the substance FAT 40849/A TE in different freshwater species from three trophic levels are available. The acute toxicity test was low in freshwater fish (Danio rerio, 96-hours semi-static, LC50 >50 mg/L) and in freshwater invertebrates (Daphnia magna, 48-hours static, EC50 = 100 mg/L). In contrast, acute toxicty of the substance in freshwater green algae was seen and the lowest EC50 value was found for biomass yield (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata, 72-hours static, EC50 = 35 mg/L). Studies on the long-term toxicity of the substance to aquatic freshwater organisms or toxicity to marine organisms are lacking.

The inhibitory toxicity of FAT 40849/A TE to activated, predominantly domestic sewage sludge was low. The EC50 value in a 3-hour activated sludge respiration inhibition test was >1000 mg/L and the NOEC was 305 mg/L.
